Great question! This was just one of the brilliant questions at the Association for Project Management event yesterday following our founder, Vicky Reddington‘s presentation on ‘Turning Imposter Syndrome into my Super Power’.
Vicky’s response to the question “Should you fake it ’til you make it?’
1) Be authentic
“We talked a lot about the importance of being authentic and not trying to be someone you are not.”
“I have sooo many stories of where I had tried to be like someone else that I admired, and it had backfired royally! Best was when I was trying to be a techie presenting at Microsoft to an audience of 300+ and someone turned the lights off to ‘shut me up’ – I was reading registry settings out ☹”
2) Find your cause
“The next is about finding your cause – something you can find your passion and voice about. This will give you presence.”
3) Find your network and your supporters
“Who is pushing you forward?”
4) You don’t need to know all the answers
“This is certainly last but not at all least. Don’t think you have to have all the answers. All you need to be able to do is leverage the power of team. Together you can do anything! You just need to know who to go to, to ask for help.”

“Just believe that you are enough. Be authentic and embrace that. You are going to be a better than that fake version of yourself.”
