Holistic Approach to Life and Leadership with Trevor Dias

Get Amplified podcast series 6 episode 8 with Trevor Dias

At the start of last year, we sat down with Trevor Dias for an episode of the Get Amplified podcast and it’s a conversation, around a holistic approach to life and leadership, that we’ve found ourselves coming back to.

Trevor brings a rare blend of experience. From sports coaching at Manchester United to senior leadership roles at Vodafone and Salesforce, his career has spanned elite performance environments and high-pressure corporate settings. What ties it all together is his belief that sustainable success, in life and at work, starts with how we look after ourselves.

Wellbeing Isn’t a “Nice to Have”

One of the strongest themes from this conversation is the idea that wellbeing is often treated as optional, something we’ll get to once everything else is done.

Trevor challenges that head-on.

Ignoring our health, energy and mindset isn’t a time-saver: it’s a performance risk. When we neglect the basics, we pay for it later through burnout, reduced focus, poor decision-making and strained relationships.

For many of us, this realisation brings a collective sigh of relief. As Vic shared during the conversation, even something as simple as spending time on a jigsaw over the weekend can feel oddly guilt-inducing. Why do we struggle to give ourselves permission to rest, enjoy, and reset?

Trevor reframes this beautifully: those small moments aren’t indulgent, they’re essential.

Redefining What “Healthy” Really Means

We often default to physical fitness as the marker of good health. If we’re exercising, we tell ourselves we’re doing okay.

But Trevor encourages us to look wider.

True wellbeing goes far beyond movement alone. It includes how we think, how we sleep, what we eat, how connected we feel to purpose, and how intentionally we manage our energy, not just our time.

Drawing on his own journey, Trevor has developed a holistic wellness pyramid made up of six foundational pillars:

  1. Purpose
  2. Mindset
  3. Sleep
  4. Nutrition
  5. Activity
  6. Training

What’s striking is what sits at the base.

Purpose Comes First

Purpose isn’t a fluffy concept in Trevor’s world, it’s foundational.

When we’re clear on why we do what we do, it influences every other area of our wellbeing. It shapes our motivation, resilience, boundaries and choices. Without it, even the best habits struggle to stick.

This resonates deeply in leadership roles, where it’s easy to stay busy but feel disconnected. Purpose provides the anchor that helps leaders show up consistently, especially when pressure is high.

From Insight to Action

The conversation isn’t just reflective, it’s practical.

Trevor encourages leaders and teams to:

  • Set clearer boundaries around work and rest

  • Build recovery into their routines, not just their holidays

  • Pay attention to energy levels, not just outputs

  • Ask for support when things feel out of balance

None of this requires a complete life overhaul. Small, intentional changes, done consistently, are what create lasting impact.

Why This Conversation Still Matters

Although this episode was recorded at the beginning of last year, its message feels even more relevant now.

As individuals, leaders and teams continue to operate at pace, the reminder is simple but powerful: we can’t perform well if we don’t feel well.

Looking after ourselves isn’t a distraction from performance, it’s what enables it.
